Knowing when to stop working on these pieces is becoming increasingly harder. Im using paint because I love the marks it creates along with the physicality of the texture. Layering the plastic paint on raw canvas feels to be the most thoughtful way I can convey my forms. The expressive nature of working on a large canvas continues to be what draws me into making these works. I have come to realize that I should not be forcing my hand to alter a piece for the wrong reasons. “Wrong” reasons being to hide the volatility of my forms. I am still only using red, white and blue paint for this series and I feel that it works exceptionally well with the raw canvas. The darkest shade isn’t black but is instead a deep red and blue. The canvas does it’s job as a vessel to show comfort and familiarity and a tight, dark environment.
